Preliminary Program Announcement

The VCFS Educational Foundation announces the preliminary content of its 15 th Annual International Scientific Meeting to be held in the Detroit area at the Troy Hilton July 18 – 20, 2008. We have had many submissions of presentations from around the world, and the program is an exciting blend of research papers, treatment issues, and practical discussions concerning VCFS. Some of the topics to be presented include:

  • How deletions result in structural anomalies in VCFS
  • Analysis of genomic structural variation
  • Interactions of genes inside the 22q11.2 region with genes elsewhere in the genome
  • Feeding treatments and how they may be part of the problem, not part of the solution
  • A growth chart specific to VCFS and why it is needed
  • Space, time and number impairments in VCFS
  • Brain structure in VCFS
  • Challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders in VCFS
  • A family ‑centered model for speech treatment in VCFS
  • Language versus speech: where should the focus be in VCFS?

The examples listed above are only a small number of the total presentations to be made. The full preliminary program will be available in the coming weeks. The deadline for submissions only recently closed and the Program Committee is working on the finished product right now in an attempt to keep the material as current as possible.

Also included in this year’s program are the popular breakfasts and lunches with the experts, consultations with experts, and a primer session immediately prior to the meeting opening. This promises to be an amazing educational opportunity for all who attend. Stay in touch with this web site for updates on the program that will follow soon.
